Narrative
This competency states that I can identify and participate in communities of practice within the field of Educational Technology. I have included a discussion post from EDCI 513: Foundations of Learning Design and Technology. In this post, I was asked to talk about my future in educational technology. I discuss my dream job in educational technology. I would like to become a technology integration specialist. This will require me staying up to date in many realms. However, the one area that I mentioned in my post is technology standards. There are many standards and ideas of how to present technology goals in the classroom. In my paper, I identify this need, but do not name an organization. My goal is to better use standards within my building.
The second artifact that I included is a picture of my ISTE membership complete with my membership ID number. ISTE stands for the International Society for Technology in Education. I am a brand-new member of this organization as of late last month. We currently try to use ISTE standards in our school district. As a leader of technology in my school district, I find that it is important to stay up to date with the tech leaders in the industry. This is my way to help my district better utilize ISTE standards. If I can find a way to help my building better use the ISTE standards, I believe I will be fulfilling my goal as mentioned in my EDCI 513 paper. ISTE offers a lot of diverse Professional Learning Networks (PLN) that I have been following as allowed with my membership. From teacher education to stem topics and digital citizenship, I have already learned a lot and find the posts informative.
My goals in this area are to better identify standards and find ways to help my school align their classrooms with these standards. I have officially applied and been recommended as a technology integration specialist for my building and waiting for a vote on the school board. If everything goes through smoothly as anticipated, I hope to use my membership as well as knowledge gained at ISTE conferences, to help direct my school in areas that still need growth. I am very excited about the opportunities that have opened for me with my membership to this organization.
